Competitive exams, on the other hand, are one of the most important exams that everyone has to face. These are quite difficult to crack but it is no rocket science. Many join various GMAT prep classes for better training. Below are some helpful tips to keep in mind while preparing for various entrance exams.

  • Plan your study time: Manage your study time accordingly before you sit to study. Before an exam, know what you want to study. Know which topics you plan to cover and revise them before an exam. If you plan from before, you will be able to do much better in your exams.
  • Shorter study sessions are better: It has been found out that students learn as much in an hour than they do in a six hour marathon session. By using a well-planned study schedule you can easily cut your study time by at least 30%. Best GMAT prep classes or IITians have reported that they can cram much more before an exam than a normal day. Even study breaks helps mind absorb more information without any conscious effort.
  • Never study when you are sleepy: Sitting with a book with sleepy eyes is never helpful. If you have to cover a lot, better do something like clear the study desk, sort out the notes or take a quick nap to refresh your mind for studying. It will help the sleepiness to pass away.
  • Scheduling subjects: It is always wise to study different subjects one after the other, instead of similar subjects.
  • Keeping yourself alert: It is important to focus on what to study instead of focusing on how much time you are taking to study. Don’t stress out during an exam. Minimize distractions like loud TV noises, running errands between study to help you concentrate more. Adjust your study time when you feel like you have a quiet environment. Study boring subjects when your mind is more alert and keep the easy subjects for later.
  • Take small breaks: Taking breaks while studying is extremely important. If you study too much at once, you might not remember a single thing. The main point is study hard but not so hard that you can’t bear it.
  • Don’t study at odd times: Never study at odd hours when you feel sleepy. Doing that is a complete waste of time. Post dinner studies should be avoided. Select a time when you think you are alert enough to remember anything.
  • Saving time for revision: Don’t forget to revise before an exam. Revision helps you recapitulate a lot of things.
  • A proper diet: Diets can make or break things. It is important to have a proper diet so that you don’t fall sick during exams.

A good guidance and proper studying techniques will help you crack any competitive exams like JEE, CAT, MAT, SAT, Medical entrances, GMAT etc.
